The business of Genesus Inc. (User and genetic supplier) is to improve commercial pork producer (customers) profitability through creation and transfer of genetic improvement. Thus, profitability of Genesus and its customers depends directly on its ability to create and transfer genetic improvement to those customers. The objective of this project is to develop and validate genomic breeding values for crossbred pigs in order to maximize profitability for commercial producers. This will be achieved by collecting and integrating pedigree, genotype, and phenotype data of purebred nucleus and crossbred commercial pigs in order to select purebred lines that are proven to advance crossbred performance in commercial herds. This project will result in increased genetic improvement at the commercial herd level assisting Canadian pork producers to raise the quality of their products.
