ALBERTA’S ROLE Lead

The Visual Genomics Centre (VGC) at the University of Calgary has provided bioinformatics support for three Genome Canada Applied Genomics in Bioproducts or Crops (ABC) projects. As the main products of the bioinformatics support, the Centre has developed and hosted four bioinformatics analysis pipelines for these projects, each of which has been used heavily by the members of the respective project. Funding from Genome Alberta for a bioinformatics position will permit the maintenance and updates to the above pipelines as well as various requests from the research teams that were involved in other the Genome Canada projects. The upkeep of the pipelines involves knowledge and experience in both the computational aspects of the pipelines as well as in the biological significance of the genomic data and results. The goal of this collaborative research project is to continue providing the bioinformatics support required for these Genome Canada projects.
