Imagine having the technology to immerse yourself directly within an organism to see the inner workings of its genome and how changes affect the body over time. Such 4D capabilities will move Genome Canada further toward its grand objective of enabling Canada to be a world leader in genomics and proteomics research. This project will create fully integrated virtual reality models of all aspects of disease. This will include medical information, advanced imaging data, test results (such as biopsies and gene expression data), proteomics information, and more. Using Java 3DTM-based computer models of targeted organisms (mouse, rat, and human) the team will develop four dimensional (spatial and temporal) approaches to data visualization, querying, and mining to help elucidate the nature of genetic disease. This will allow research groups around the world to easily access this powerful new technology, thereby significantly impacting Canadian, as well as international genetic disease research. Their goal is to advance the field of genomics research in an easily accessible manner with the potential to deliver wide ranging socio-economic advances.
